The
Studio teaches positive self image and explanations of the condition. It
offers the opportunity to meet other people with ADHD and learn
appropriate social skills, self awareness, self control, and confidence.
Group work based on videos, art therapy and shared activities have
achieved positive results.
The Studio is registered as a Special
Needs Duke of Edinburgh Award Unit, to encourage the positive use of
leisure time and personal achievement out of school. Workshops are held
for parents on parenting skills, and stress and relaxation training, as
there is high level of relationship and health problems within families
who have a child with ADHD. The Studio offers a holistic approach to the
management of ADHD and believes in linking and encouraging families and
young people to meet and support each other, removing the isolation that
many feel, by working together to acknowledge and enhance the many special
qualities that they share.
Whilst medication is provided by the NHS it is rare to find specific
therapeutic and practical assistance to address the problems. Demand for
the existing service of information, parental support and advocacy in
schools, and crisis intervention when there is involvement with the
judicial system has grown. In January 2002 The Studio became registered as
a Charity, and is seeking funding to enable the service to expand and met
the needs of many more children and their families. Funding would allow
for the development and facilitation of age appropriate group programs on
Anger management, Social Skills and Self Esteem, for children and
adolescents. These are desperately needed and rarely available. Funding
would also enable low income families and young unemployed people to
access treatment program under a Bursary scheme.
The Studio has an active and
committed Management Committee who look
forward to supporting the aims and future development of the organisation,
and welcome all enquiries, donations or offers of support.
The Studio is registered with the Gift Aid scheme |
