This programme is designed to be spread over three months, with the first four sessions weekly, and the following fortnightly. The first four sessions will be on an individual basis, then clients may be encouraged to share sessions with others in a similar age group if they wish. Sessions usually last approximately two hours. We all have basic emotional needs for love, security and self-esteem, and often the constant difficulties we experience are self perpetuating because our belief systems are stuck.

We also have the innate resources to help us meet these needs including, memory, imagination, self awareness and problem solving abilities. It is when we do not use these resources correctly that we suffer distress, and so do those around us. Cognitive therapy does not focus on the past, since research shows this tends to make depression and anxiety worse.

This programme focuses on helping clients identify unmet needs and empowering them to meet these needs by activating their own resources in new ways. Parents or partners are often encouraged to participate and support the client with the changes they make throughout the programme, or they may book individual support sessions.
