Nancy
Williams set up The Studio in December 1999 to provide
a service to children, adolescents and their families,
that is complementary to the clinical diagnosis of
ADHD.
The
aim of The Studio is to offer a relaxed and
therapeutic environment for the sharing of personal
and emotional problems, to enhance clients self
esteem, and to advise on coping and management
techniques. Whilst initially specialising in
adolescent support, experience has highlighted the
need to offer awareness and guidance at an earlier
age, and referrals are now taken from the age of nine.
The Studio has an Activity Programme, and is
registered as a Special Needs Duke of Edinburgh Award
Unit, encouraging young people to look for success in
leisure and sport. Workshops are held for parents and siblings on
a variety of subjects and there are also opportunities
to meet regularly with other parents during the group
activity days. The Studio was registered as a charity
in December 2001 and is actively seeking funding for
additional staff to develop the service in order to
meet the demand.
